Biography

Born in Burgos, Spain, Mar found her passion for dance at the age of four, captivated by a ballet class she observed. She began her dance training at the age of eight at Escuela Profesional de Danza de Castilla y León “Ana Laguna”, and continued it at the School of Eisenhower Dance Detroit once Mar relocated to Metro Detroit, Michigan, at seventeen. During this time she also joined the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Online Training Ground program and found her love for choreography.

 

Recently, Mar graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance with an emphasis in composition at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. During this time Mar has refined her voice and research which delves into cultural and societal themes, blending the genres and experiences that shape her perspective as an immigrant in original works such as Leftovers from Yesterday, Permutations of an Obsession and A Place We All Know, culminating with her first evening-length show: What No Flower Talks About.

 

Mar has performed works by esteemed artists such as José Limón, Hope Boykin, Asia Pyron, Jarek Cemerek, Norbert de la Cruz III, Christian Denice and Danae & Dionysios. In addition, Mar has assisted on the reconstruction of Lar Lubovitch's Dvorak's Serenade, Complexions Ballet Snatched Back From The Edges, Luza by Catherine Coury and the Summer Dance Intensive, all at the Conservatory.
